Mark Your Calendar
Mark your calendar for Sunday November 7, 2021 – for the running of the 17th Anniversary OC Marathon. We understand that this is a different day than normal, as we typically run in May! However, due to coronavirus COVID19, we have rescheduled the event to November 7, 2021.
We hope you look forward to this day with a sense of pride, as the Orange County community will once again be on display for runners from around the country and the world to see. The runners greatly appreciate the enthusiasm you have shown as they pass through your neighborhoods – the cheering, the candy and fruit, colorful balloons, cool mist from a garden hose – all great gestures that make this event so wonderful.
Road closures and delays will begin starting at 4:00 a.m. throughout our host cities of Newport Beach, Santa Ana and Costa Mesa, lasting in some areas through 3:00 p.m. We understand the race impacts your routine for a few hours on a spring Sunday, but we’d like to share with you the positives aspects of the race of which you may not be aware. Did you know annually, over $15 million was pumped into the Orange County economy as a result of the race? Did you know that the event has also generated more than $7 million for charity? Local charities such as Susan G. Komen, John Wayne Cancer Foundation, and the OC Bar Foundation, to name a few, have all benefited from the event.
Did you know that the OC Marathon Foundation heads up one of the largest youth running programs in the nation? The Kids Run the OC training program is in 170 Orange County Schools, and we expect nearly 10,000 kids to join us this year!
The OC Marathon has partnered with Waze to give you the best experience possible to navigate around road closures! Download Waze for free at www.waze.com/get for iOS and Android and see real-time traffic, find optimal routes, avoid event-related road closures and more. In addition, please see below for further area-specific detailed information and alternate routes.
As we make plans for this year’s race, we would welcome any input from you so that the event has a positive impact on your community.
