David Lyman, a retired Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technician, will be joining us for the 2025 Hoag OC Marathon in a truly unique and inspiring way. David will be running the full marathon while wearing a 64 pound EOD 9 Bomb Suit, created by Med Eng to raise funds and awareness for the EOD Warrior Foundation, an organization close to his heart.

Thousands run the 20th OC Marathon

After thousands of people ran the Hoag OC Marathon course on Sunday, they were celebrated with live music and fun at the finish line at the OC Fair & Event Center.

It was a big weekend for runners with the annual marathon, as well as a half marathon, 5K and fun run for kids, and all for a good cause. Race director Gary Kutscher said the event has raised more than $9 million for charities over the last 20 years.

Jason Yang of San Pedro captured the men’s marathon title, running it in 2:25:11. Gabriella Smith, 26, from Virginia, was the first woman across the finish line, making it in 3:05:30.

Runners were off to the races at O.C. Marathon on Cinco de Mayo

A 5 a.m. start time and running about 26 miles on a Sunday morning might not appeal to some people, but that wasn’t the case for runners out on the track this last weekend for the O.C. Marathon.

The event, sponsored by Hoag, celebrated its 20th anniversary this year and drew thousands out to the starting line at Fashion Island. Andrew Guarni, Hoag’s executive vice president and chief financial officer, said in December the sponsorship was an effort to keep Orange County healthy.
