OC Marathon Welcomes David Lyman: Running for a Cause in 2025

We are thrilled to announce that David Lyman, a retired Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technician, will be joining us for the 2025 Hoag OC Marathon in a truly unique and inspiring way. David will be running the full marathon while wearing a bomb suit to raise funds and awareness for the EOD Warrior Foundation, an organization close to his heart.

David shared with us his motivation for taking on this incredible challenge:
“My name is David Lyman. I am a retired Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Tech. I am fundraising for an organization that supports EOD Technicians across all the Branches of the military and their families. I will be running this race in the EOD 9 Bomb Suit, created by Med Eng. This suit is a 64 lb ensemble that protects against blast, fragmentation, and offers thermal protection. It is a staple of the EOD toolset. I am wearing it as a way to honor all the EOD Techs that have served, are serving, and that will. I hope to bring awareness to a community that is selfless and support an organization that loves and tirelessly serves all Techs and their families.”

David’s participation is a powerful reminder of the strength and dedication of the EOD community. The EOD Warrior Foundation provides essential support to EOD techs and their families, offering financial assistance, educational opportunities, and resources to help them rebuild their lives after service. David’s run in the bomb suit is not only a testament to his personal resolve but also a tribute to the bravery and sacrifices of all EOD technicians.
