We’re honored to welcome Susan G. Komen as one of the 2025 Hoag OC Marathon Charity Partners! Founded in 1982 by Nancy G. Brinker in memory of her sister Susan, who tragically passed away from breast cancer, Susan G. Komen has grown into a global leader in the fight against breast cancer. The organization’s mission is clear: to save lives by addressing the most critical needs in our communities and investing in breakthrough research to prevent and cure breast cancer.

With nearly $1.1 billion invested in groundbreaking research since its inception, Komen is the world’s largest non-governmental funder of breast cancer research, second only to the U.S. government. Their efforts have led to a 42% decline in breast cancer mortality since 1989, saving countless lives and offering hope to families affected by the disease.

Komen’s impact extends far beyond research. The organization provides essential patient services, such as financial assistance, navigation support, and educational resources, totaling more than 52,000 services annually, benefiting a significant number of individuals. In addition, Komen advocates for policy changes to support breast cancer patients and fund research, with over 120,000 grassroots advocates actively pushing for legislative action.

Through its Race for the Cure events, Komen has mobilized millions to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research and services. Their work has directly contributed to the development of 19 FDA-approved breast cancer drugs in the past decade alone, offering new treatment options to patients worldwide.
